Blog #9 – Preparing for Class

Starting a new program is exciting but also challenging for some children. It is common for some children to take a few weeks to adjust to the structure of class. We will work together to be your child’s cheerleaders. With some time and patience your child will get comfortable in the new environment and the other participants will become familiar faces.

If your child is not ready to participate and prefers to watch and observe that is totally ok! There is no pressure to participate perfectly. It is best not to compare your child to the others in class since even a few months age gap is significant. The older children will be more advanced than the younger children in class and I will provide the developmentally appropriate skill progression that suits your child’s skill level.

There is so much learning and growing at this stage and I can’t wait to be part of your child’s development! I hope you have a great first Fit For Fun class!

Tips

  1. Snacks – finish snacks before class to avoid distractions
  2. Bring – water bottle, indoor running shoes & comfortable clothes
  3.  Reminder – remind your child that Fit For Fun with coach Dana is starting soon
  4. Practice – pick a skill or game to practice at home (ex. soccer kicks, jumping, catching, throwing)
  5. Listening – remind your child to turn on their listening ears so they can hear coach Dana teach the games
  6. Friend – make a buddy in class to sit with and partner up with for passing activities
  7. Praise – tell your child you are proud of their participation in class
  8.  Feedback – ask your child what their favourite part of class was
